Overview:
The USCH-1 sheath is an advanced, all-weather, day and night helicopter of sky crane configuration. Made entirely of titanium alloy and reinforced with a very dense light weight foam the Sheath is much more capable than any other sky crane helicopter in the world.
Defense:
Though the titanium and the foam provide a decent amount of protection against small arms fire it isn't able to stop larger anti-aircraft rounds from penetrating. To combat the threat from these systems the Sheath employs several threads of a classified composition wire in an overlapping nonagon shape inside the foam, when the round hits this wire it will be shredded and the foam will catch the splinters stopping its penetration.
The threat from missiles in the modern battle field is guaranteed, with even the poorest of nations employing advanced anti-aircraft missiles. To combat this the Sheath comes with 10 chaff dispensers and 10 flare dispensers.
Secondary attack role:
While the Sheath is by no means an attack helicopter it can be fitted with offensive weaponry. The side wings of the helicopter have 2 hard points each which can fit up to 2,500lbs each.
To deal with lighter targets such as infantry or vehicles the Sheath employees the HvK11-3 Chaingun, which is capable of firing up to 750 RPM. The HvK11-3 has 500 rounds internally stowed.
Engine:
The Sheath employees 2 PCV-1 Military turboshafts which give off 12,547 HP each, allowing the Sheath to carry loads of up to 80,000LB of external cargo, typically in the detachable cargo pod.
Frame:
Because of the immense load the Sheath would have to endure the Frame would have to be extremely strong and durable. Therefore the skeleton of the helicopter is made of the exact same allow that is used in stopping AA rounds from penetrating, this alloy is more than strong enough to sustain the weight of a full load and the helicopter.
thingypit:
The Sheath features an all glass thingypit, a 3d uplink to the Battle space, a full communications suite, Night and IR vision and the space defense suite, which automatically targets incoming threats and deploys the appropriate counter measure.
The pilot and weapons operator sit side by side both using the 3d battle space uplink. Though the pilot uses it for navigation the weapons operator uses it to highlight targets.
Lift:
The Sheath carries 1 NST cargo pod slung underneath.
The NST cargo pod is designed to be dropped from the air, at heights of up to 3,000 feet, and guide itself to a safe flat allied controlled location using its four 360 degree rotating thrusters. Once landed its doors fall open for soldiers and vehicles to re-supply.
